Re: HC S1 929 Audio Project
13b front cut backed by microtec, easier to engineer as the car came with it from factory
you know, it has been many many years since i've heard a good sounding Holden 6.... last time was 202 VK Calais and that was some years ago
i still say get JE back in there (at least for the moment), the motors can be bought for 500, the heads are cheaper again. smooth, almost 45degree valves (even through its sohc)... when looked after blows the 3.8s out of the water on economy... sorry, but i say still more trouble then its worth (as seen from my tower )

HAHAHAHA! I can see you love your Buick 6s.... NOT!
Funny you mention about the 13B front cut. S4 motor, yeah?
Standard transmission could work off one of these? Adaptor plate needed?
I've got a couple of weeks to think through something here. So, any input would be tops
Oh... I received a couple more deliveries (audio gear) but I've got 1 more coming from QLD, so I'll show all the pics when I receive that.
MORE gear to sit and "mature" in my room... while it awaits a car to be put into! hahaha

Re: HC S1 929 Audio Project
SO... ANOTHER delivery rocked up at my work today....
Alpine PXA-H700 Multimedia Manager to help me out a little with my "hyper" active 3 way front stage
Also.... about a week ago, I received the RCAs/interconnects that hook up to this thing, with the 2 massive lengths of speaker/sub wiring.
12AWG and 10AWG wiring...
Stinger Pro3 RCAs (3ft/6ft/9ft lengths)...
0AAWG-4AWG and 4AWG-8AWG adapters.
That's it for now...

Re: HC S1 929 Audio Project
Im with matsuda on the commo v6. Would not waste my time. If you were sold a terrible sounding v6 though, it would only be feasible to put the factory supercharged engine in. With a few mods it could run 13's, but even then thats when it all runs out.

Re: HC S1 929 Audio Project
Yeah.. I thought about it.. if I do a swap.. I'll do a proper job...
V8! hahaha or 20B. I'll make it worth the headache of it all!!!
Well.. the update on this for now is that I sourced an original SOHC (finally!!!) for $815 with a 6 month parts/labour warranty, delivered to Bayswater from Preston, to be fitted. I'm going passed on Saturday to get the car in the garage to start the changeover.
More later

I will fill all in on this after Saturday. I'm going down there to suss it all out myself. And I'll need to show photos of another HC 929 in the family as well (that my father actually wants to do up!! haha. Happy days!)

Re: HC S1 929 Audio Project
There IS progress. The 929 motor that was in there before was a MESS! You wouldn't really see the extent of the damage until we took the motor out completely (WHICH WAS A FULL 2-DAY MISSION!!!) I've learnt something out of these JE V6s... these things are solid built.. and were made in a hope to never be changed over!! (I can only imagine the DOHC swap!!!)
Day 1: We undone all the hosings, wiring loom, took out the shroud, radiator, fan and we managed to bypass the airconditioning unit (which is the R12 gas! Not happy, but anyway) by pushing it to the right for clearance. Because of all the "bolt-ons" under the hood, one day was just unscrewing all them!!! As well as dropping the tailshaft.
Day 2: dropped the exhaust, the crossmember was undone and the fuel lines and power steering pump disconnected. We then got the engine hoist and start lifting this thing out. To our disappointment... for a 3L V6... this is a snug fit bay! We had to pull the condensor out for the air con (which meant disconnecting the air con after-all!) With a bit of elbow grease (and determination!!), we managed to haul the motor and transmission out in one shot. VERY handy. So the stage we are up to now is changing over the good bits that are on the dead motor and fitting them to the new motor. (Which is missing the power steering pump, the alternator - which I'll need to buy now, also a new thermostat)
At present.. I found a thermostat for $55 shipped overnight, so I'll have it by the weekend.
Here's pics of it all...
^^^ Not what you'd like to see in your throttle body
^^^ Removed the shroud and fan... ready to get the radiator out.
^^^ Air con out the way.. but proved to be useless as the condensor was disconnected the next day!
^^^ Motor chained up and ready to roll...
^^^ All out... FINALLY!
^^^ The empty bay... which I can clean up a little while it's all out.
^^^ Rear of the motor just below the heads show the "white" areas where the leak was going...
...and further down we go! Poor donk!
And the blood-bath afterwards (courtesy of the transmission and everything else!)
More to come hopefully this weekend
