HD acceleration
Hi all
I am just wondering if anyone's experienced their HD having a general lack of power, not roughness, just lack of power and having to push in the accelerator almost the whole way for it drop back gears. This shouldn't be the case should it? Where should I start investigating this issue

Re: HD acceleration
Could be a couple of things... injectors, throttle body... I'm sure some more light will be shed on this shortly enough, however they wouldn't be bad starting points.

Re: HD acceleration
my HD does that. I'm sorry to break it to ya but its the transmission. It changes up when you want it to stay in the same gear and then when you hit the speed that you want to it realizes you need more power and drops a gear. its annoying but i guess you just gotta find a way to live with it cause a new tranny for one of those could cost between 2-3k.

Re: HD acceleration
Yep mine does the same and only has 145000km on it, and just serviced the tranny with new filter and a full flush. 11L of Oil

Re: HD acceleration
believe it or not I change my transmission oil every time I service my car. I guess its the cheapest way to prevent my tranny from dieing on me.
Sometimes when I'm cruising along and I suddenly put my foot down there's this huge jolt in the transmission and it'll take like 2 seconds before it changes down. So annoying! I've considered putting in an auto box from another car but its going to be just as expensive

Re: HD acceleration
what's a kick down switch?? I gotta check it out. What's the HC pedal like? Does it pop out from the floor like the HDs or is it the usual style hanging from the top.

Re: HD acceleration
it doesn't matter there is still a rod behind the pedal running to the pedal box... if you follow that rod you will see a pot-like switch which gets activated once pedal is depressed (not sure on spelling, i mean pressed down, not suicidal )
the kick down switch activates once the pedal is pressed past a point and sends a signal to the gearbox to downshift.... simple really
