Radiator has been playing up for a couple of months. I've had to top up the radiator before every drive and the car overheats after 20 minutes of driving. I noticed that if I drove on highways/tollways at a consistent speed, it'd keep cool. The city driving (stop-start-stop-start-traffic flow) used to cook the motor.
I was holding out until August and then it was gonna get the transmission/motor/brakes/radiator done... BUT it wasn't happy.

Know any wreckers that do the DOHC motors?

Cheers for that. I rang them up and they have a couple there. So that IS handy.

My mate has the car at his joint and he posted these finding up on another site for me:
well I got home and one sad lil 929 greeted me.........
put the rad pressure tester on it and so far I found the inlet manifold preheat water hose had finally called it a day and split the hose about 4-5mm long.
It is a small y-junction that feeds water from the block up into the y splitter then the water circulates thru the inlet manifold.
Just have to replace a 2' length of 5/16 hose and clamp it up.

Pulled the sparkplugs and they were saturated with fuel and not water thankfully but will have to wait till tmoro to comp test it(ran out of daylight)......not looking good as when I cranked it earlier it was really unbalanced......it reminds me of an early Cresida when it cranks(that was with plugs in tho)
Plugs out and it cranks quite smooth,btw I had the Hilux boosting it as I was sure how far the battery had been run down.
I got my suspicion the LH headgasket could be blown between the cylinder bore and water jacket as when I crank it it pressurizes the cooling system and blows the coolant back out the blown pipe.
No water is evident in the oil so thats a good sign that you havent split a bore liner or cracked an internal water jacket.(Oils dirty u lazy bastard....hasnt been changed for a while.....I can tell!!!

So tomorrow after work Ill comp and leak test it and see what gives.......stay tuned!!!
Messy!! Anyway... we shall see the outcome later on today BEFORE any more audio work is done.

this one is a bitch, i caught mine i time on both engines... replaced the bustard with brass fitting and longer hose (used EFI fuel hose for longer life). longer hose should make it easier to replace in the future.

easy done. take the elbow off, will give you hell of a lot room to work with. there is another shitty joint under the dizzy towards the manifold (still haven't replaced that one yet on mine)

this bustard will make you overheat, its not necessary that you done the head :)

Bad news just come.
No compression whatsoever on the left side of the motor. It's officially a slant 3.. not a V6. Broke the cam belt in the ordeal! :(

So.... new motor shopping... here I go!

well, sucks, but at least the motors are plentiful, plus as far as i think, all you would is a good head (that always cheers me up :lol:).... another fantastic thing about these cars: you would need a head, regardless if its left or right, they interchangeable :)

also there usually a few HCs down at center rd wreckers (pick a part place)... don't quote me but i think heads are like $60 from there.

Well.... the engine might work out for the better here.
I'm in the talks at this point in time of an engine conversion...

(cough) Buick V6 (cough) 3.8L

Man... this chest infection's a killer! haha

Yeah, we're finding out how hard it could possibly be to get one of these motors in there. (transmission aswell.. diff might be either an RX7 S4 diff or a VN SS LSD diff.... we'll see what works better.)

blah.... change a smooth motor for something that was made by Rover in 1938 :picking:

well, it has been done before, there were a couple of these for sale on ebay over the years (one sedan one hardtop).

plus, requirement for engineers.... screw it, i would go a rota.... 8-)

I'd LOVE a 20B in there.... believe me I would. But... $5k just for the motor... then getting THAT swapped over and engineered!
I was surprised actually with the amount of work that goes into the DOHC swap over. Considering the S2 929ers had the model (same body shape) and yet ALOT of things are different to change over/modify!

I must admit.. the Buick 6s have a nice note to them with the right exhaust setup on it. And centrifugal blower kits are fairly priced for them. Low boost/stock internals mild work...PLENTY for me :)
